This course is designed for individuals designated as Competent Persons, responsible for identifying hazards and ensuring proper safety practices in trenching and excavation operations.

Participants learn to recognize soil types and stability conditions, inspect protective systems, implement appropriate shoring, shielding, and sloping techniques, and monitor site conditions to prevent cave-ins and other excavation hazards. Subpart CC – Cranes and Derricks in Construction 

The Qualified Rigger for the Competent Person course provides in-depth training for individuals responsible for planning, supervising, and inspecting rigging operations on construction sites. Building on foundational rigging knowledge, this course focuses on the duties and responsibilities of a Competent Person, ensuring compliance with OSHA’s Cranes and Derricks in Construction standard (29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC, including 1926.1400, 1926.1401, 1926.1404, and 1926.1425).

Participants gain advanced instruction in rigging hardware selection, sling inspections, load calculations, signaling, and hazard recognition, as well as assembly, disassembly, and safe operation of cranes and lifting devices. Emphasis is placed on the Competent Person’s role in evaluating jobsite conditions, enforcing safety procedures, and guiding personnel to prevent accidents during lifting operations.

By completing this course, participants are prepared to act as Qualified Riggers, capable of supervising rigging tasks, ensuring safe crane and derrick operations, and maintaining compliance with OSHA standards to protect workers and materials on the job site.
